Maruti will make electric car in Gujarat

JV Plant of Suzuki to develop Batteries

Maruti's Japanese Partner Suzuki Motor Corp will set up plant for lithium-ion batteries at Hansalpur in Gujarat while also start working on third car making plant at the manufacturing location in the state. The lithium-ion plant is being set up in partnership with Denso and Toshiba and will start production in 2020, investments pegged at $180m (1,151cr). It is expected that the batteries will be used to power Maruti and Suzuki's electric vehicles. Suzuki will provide the lithium-ion batteries factory that will charge electric, hybrid and other vehicles from the company's stable. Denso and Toyota will provide the technology.
